Remember May 27th 2007 !!!  This day will be remembered in the History of Pakistan, as the day Imran Khan finally came of Age in Politics. And he has only one Person/Party to Thank. Yes you guessed it, MQM and Musharraf the Great.

How long he has been trying to become a True Leader, having Public following that can propel his party into national prominence. Since the day he came into politics he has been the center of ridicule, since despite his popularity, his party has never been able to cement its place in national politics.

Then came March 9th. As the saying goes "Every Ending has a Beginning". The events that led to May 27th can be easily traced to March 9th.  Inexpiably Musharraf the Great fired Justice Iftikhar Chaudary on March 9th. It stirred a strom in Pakistan Politics which has yet to die down. I bet if Musharraf the Great had a "Mulligan" he will love to use it on that day.

The firing provided Pakistan Politicians a chance to agitate against Musharraf the Great. But it were the lawyers that took the lead. They are not only responsible but infact can be termed as the heart of what has now become a National Movement for restoration of the Judiciary Independence. Although PTI agenda always had Independence of Judiciary, but this was never a public issue until March 9th.

The movement provided Imran Khan a chance to be heard, become an influental voice in a matter of interest gripping the entire nation which was also part of his party agenda. He did take full advantage and you could see him almost every where, on the TV, on the Roads, in Highcourt Bars. He became the Political face of the movement lacking any true big Leader at its helm. But still, he was just a small time leader with his party having little importance in National Picture.

Then unfortunately May 12th happened. Killing of innocent people in Karachi with MQM as the main culprits. Imran Khan came out firing on all cylinders. He put the entire blame of this incident on Altaf Hussain, going even as farther preparing a case against him so as to bring him from London to Pakistan.

In a previous blog, I overestimated MQM smartness as a party. May be they are totally freaked out with the reactions for their horrendous acts. They cannot have someone so blatantly putting blame on them, telling public the facts. It is not serving their cause i.e to put this matter under the rug as they tried by dismissing that an inquiry needs to be done for the killings. So in a completly befuddled move, they came all out attacking Imran Khan. Their thinking must have been if we attack Imran Khan s' character (we all know he used to be a PlayBoy no denying the fact) they can  put a asterik in Imran Khan claims. Why not? it worked before during the elections.

But the move completely backfired. Instead of denting Imran Khan, they fueled fire to his emrging popularity as a Political Leader. They forgot that it was not election time. Imran Khan was only saying what the whole Pakistan was saying. The entire Pakistan was condemning MQM actions. And by attacking Imran Khan so bluntantly the whole Pakistan started taking notice of Imran Khan. He was enthoned as the unquestioned leader against MQM actions. He elevated from just a leader among bunch of Leaders as THE LEADER.

It is as History is repeating itslef. Bhutto became the leader when he started speaking the language of the public. He gave voice to public resentment against Ayub. Now Imran Khan has become the voice of public resentment against MQM and Musharraf. This transformation also been fueled by  PPP and MNL(N) leaders being away from Pakistan.


The last but not the least, the event that finally made it happen, was the move by Punjab and Sindh Government to ban Imran Khan from leaving Lahore and entering Sindh on May27th. This has pinpointed to the public that who the Government fear as the voice of this agitation against Musharraf the Great. With the prevailing resentment against the present establishment it will result in more support for Imran Khan. The Nation was looking for a Leader, begging for a Leader. And WHAM MQM and Musharraf the Great provided nation a leader that they can look upon.

With in a short span of few months Musharraf the Great and MQM did what Imran could not do in the last 11 years on his own. The government and the governmet alone is responsible for creating Imran Khan the Leader which they cannot control now.  All I am praying with fingers crossed is "God Save the King and the Kings Party"
